Histórico

Aurizônia Empreendimentos was established in 1983, initially to operate in the real estate sector, in which it executed important and successful projects.

Over time, it significantly expanded its area of operations by investing in mining, steel, ports, energy and exploration and production of oil and natural gas.

Areas of Operation

Following are the most relevant industrial segments in which Aurizônia Empreendimentos has invested so far:

Mining

A successful undertaking, Mineração Caraíba is one of the largest mining companies, and the second largest copper mining company in Brazil.

For more than three decades, Mineração Caraíba has made significant contribution to Brazil's mineral processing industry, supplying more than 750,000 tonnes of copper, which represents almost US$ 2 billion in foreign exchange savings for the country.

Oil and Natural Gas (E&P)

With the establishment of Potióleo S/A in 2002, Aurizônia Empreendimentos began investing in exploration, production, importation and exportation of oil and natural gas.

Potióleo operates mainly in the onshore exploration and production (E&P) of oil in the Potiguar Basin in Rio Grande do Norte.

In 2004, Aurizônia Petróleo S/A was established to operate in the exploration and production of oil and natural gas in northeast Brazil, with the possibility of importing and exporting them.

Aurizônia Petróleo has since successfully built a balanced and successful E&P portfolio in mature onshore basins in Brazil, including a significant number of areas with small and medium exploration risk in the Potiguar and Sergipe-Alagoas Basins.

Steel and Ports

Aurizônia Empreendimentos is now building on its track record of innovation and entrepreneurship through several new projects, which include the creation of the Companhia Siderúrgica do Mearim and the Terminal Portuário do Mearim in the state of Maranhão.

Companhia Siderúrgica do Mearim is an integrated steelmaker that will manufacture plain semi-finished steel. The plant will comply with international quality standards in all stages of production, and will have the capacity to produce 10 million tonnes of steel slabs per year.

Terminal Portuário do Mearim was conceived mainly to serve the Companhia Siderúrgica do Mearim, both for bringing in the raw material required for steel production and for transporting the finished products to their respective destinations.

The project and the studies related to the Terminal Portuário do Mearim are still in progress and more information about the project will be announced shortly.

Both projects will serve mainly the European, American and Asian markets, and will bring together advanced technology and production techniques, environmental and quality control, all at lower production costs.
